Klim Dakar Pants

I know, I know...I've been slacking as far as updates and reviews. What can I say...I've been busy.

Okay, new gear and a few words about it.

Klim Dakar pants.
I got mine from Rockymountainatv and their service was exceptional. Fast shipping, no issues whatsoever.

The pants are well made, albeit a little bulky. I like the materials and the craftsmanship. The side vents are a plus, and the stretch material in knees and crotch works rather well. One word though - it lets the cold air in like crazy.
One thing I did not like on the pants is the lack of armor. Yes, they come with pads, but those pads are pretty much useless. Too thin, too many perforations.

I'm using these for DS rides in the woods, over the boots.

The lack of armor brings me to my next purchase, which I had to do since the pants lack armor:

Alpinestars Bionic Knee protectors

I both love and hate these things. They are great at what they are designed to do - protect the knee. The articulated joint is awesome. Why do I hate them? They keep sliding down, no matter what I do. Essentially, there are two velcro straps that should keep these in place, then the shin guard goes inside the boot. Still, even with the boots tight as much as possible, these keep slipping down. maybe my calves are too skinny.

Next, the new boots: Gaerne GX-1

The best damn boots I ever wore off-road, period. I got these to replace my broken AXO Prime boots. The Primes are stiff, bulky, and do their job rather well. (I crashed a few times in them, and always walked away). The GX-1, on the other hand, are soft (where it matters), hard (where it matters) and their buckles are much better than the Axo's. I was torn between A* Tech 7, Tech 3, Thor Ratchet, and Fox Comp 5. Then I found these babies. What sold me are the replaceable soles AND the CE rating. All the A* were rated CE-1. The GX-1 are rated CE-2, for crash, abrasion, and cut. Don't ask me why, because they are softer than the A* boots, but the rating is there. So far, I have 4 rides on these and I'm loving it.

Some new gear

Spring riding is officially here, and the WR is a lot of fun to ride. Since I messed up my Axo Prime boots during a fall last season, I needed a suitable replacement. After careful consideration, several tries of different designs and manufacturers, I ended up purchasing Gaerne GX-1 boots. Along with the boots, I also got Klim Dakar pants, and Firstgear Teton TPG jacket. I'll review each of these items in upcoming posts.
